“What we know is a drop, what we don’t know is an ocean.” – Isaac Newton
Cosmos is a watercolour and acrylic painting which tells a story of two realities: the positive and negative space, and everything else. It depicts a world of layers; starting at the bottom which is our world, what we know, rising into a land completely foreign to us, what we do not know. The positive and negative space lining the bottom of the painting represents our understanding of life. The black of the sailboat, riding upon the black of the waves, juxtaposed with the plain white of its surroundings, represents our simplistic, binary point of view. The rays of light are merely glimpses of a world completely out of our comprehension. Everything familiar to us lies within this thin layer of understanding.
