Movie: Certified Copy
Director: Abbas Kiarostami
Starring: Juliette Binoche, William Shimell and Jean-Claude Carrière
Juliette Binoche attends a talk given by an Englishman on the nature of art and whether a copy can ever be worth more than its original. They then spend the day travelling through Tuscany discussing the nature of art, love and life. Their relationship remains a mystery however; are they married, divorced or complete strangers?
Kiarostami makes his audience work to enjoy this film. It’s dialogue heavy, and I wondered constantly about the leads’ past together. The pace and style mean this film’s not for everyone, but if you’re looking for a thought-provoking and beautiful film it’s for you.
